The Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Christian Aid, Amanda Mukwashi, conducted a field visit to one of the impact areas for Comprehensive Action for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Project YONECO and MAGGA are implementing with financial support from the Global Fund through Action Aid and Christian Aid.
Community members, traditional leaders as well as adolescent girls and young women and various stakeholders gathered at Mendulo Primary School Ground in Mulanje district to share experiences and successes stories that have been achieved through the AGYW Project.
The visit enabled community members, adolescent girls and young women in Mulanje to express their gratitude to Christian Aid for the support they get through the project.
Among other things, young girls explained that the project has helped them to return to school after giving birth, some girls testified how the project has helped them to evade child marriages and remain in school through various capacity building exercises. The young girls stated that the training in production of reusable sanitary pads has enabled them to reclaim their dignity. The girls further explained that they are also able to meet their needs and through the proceeds they get from selling the sanitary pads they make.
The Global CEO for Christian Aid was in the company of Christian Aid Head of Africa Division- Karimi Kinoti; Christian Aid Malawi Country Manager – Pansi Katenga; the Executive Director for YONECO; MacBain Mkandawire; as w ell as Mphatso Baluwa who is the Execuitve Director for MAGGA Executive Director.
The overall objective of the AGYW project is to reduce incidence of HIV among girls aged 15-24 through addressing negative gender and social norms, strengthened community systems, and integrated interventions contributing to the attainment of the 90-90-90 goals
